Teddies Music Club was launched in 1993 by Claire Ross-Masson and Zita Newcome for their own toddlers who loved to sing and dance. They set up a club where parents and their children could come to create live music and sing in a relaxed and friendly environment. Zita and Claire are both trained artists with a passion for music. This meant that when they started up the music class they bought a unique approach to it, inspiring children through a combination of live music and art.
Claire and Zita were delighted to find that the groups soon grew with many other parents, grandparents, nannies and child-minders wanting to sing with their children. As the groups grew so did the repertoire of songs, rhymes and dances collected from around the world. Many of the songs they have written over the years have become firm favourites with the children, now recorded on cds (see below).
Along the way the Teddies Music Club team has expanded to include a talented band of singers and musicians. Together they run live music sessions every day of the week in Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.
Today Teddies is an established music group for the under-fives and has had literally thousands of children through its doors. They have also performed live shows at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead and The Hexagon, Reading.
Over the years they have built up a large collection of pictures illustrating the children’s favourite songs. Claire and Zita decided they could share their pictures with more children by creating them as prints. So in 2014 they started to put together a collection of their best paintings and The Children’s Gallery was launched. Hopefully you will find something there for your children to enjoy.
A commission to make a children’s CD for The Early Learning Centre lead to meeting with talented musician and composer Anthony England. Anthony generously gave them his time and talent to make CDs especially for Teddies.
Recording the more original and unusual material used at Teddies has proved very popular and they have just recorded their fifth cd.

Teddies Music Club has put on two sell out musical shows in the Courtyard theatre at Norden Farm Arts Centre with more to come.
For the past five years, Teddies Music Club has combined with Reading librarians to put on an annual Christmas show at The Hexagon, a 1000 seater theatre in Reading.
When Zita and Claire are not singing or painting they are helping other people with their music provision and delievery from nurseries, to infant schools, from libraries to Sure Start Centres.
After training with Teddies, Reading, Torbay and Slough libraries now have flourishing Rhythm and Rhyme sessions at all of their branches.
Zita and Claire have also trained the children’s librarians in Gloucestershire and Derbyshire.
They have run workshops for many nursery/primary teachers, Sure Start workers and child-minders.
They also do school visits for music specials.

The Children’s Gallery
As trained artists, Claire and Zita have always used artwork as a way of engaging the children in the songs and extending their attention span. The children are fascinated by the large painted props and colouring pictures used at all the Teddies music sessions. So, Zita and Claire decided to paint original pictures inspired by children’s songs and rhymes for children to enjoy at home. To make them affordable they have reproduced them as high quality prints to buy through The Children’s Gallery on the Teddies Music Club website.
